Vacationers Splurge or Spend the Same as Last Year on Trips

Funjet Vacations Discovers Nearly 90 Percent Are Paying the Same or More This Year

MILWAUKEE, May 25, 2007 – Wallets are opening wider than ever for vacations this year. Funjet Vacations recently conducted a survey to determine Americans' thoughts on vacation budgets, and discovered nearly 90 percent plan on spending the same or more than they did last year on air/hotel getaways.

Surprisingly, 16 percent of Americans that make the least amount of money ($25,000 or less) are planning the greatest increase in their travel budgets - more than 50 percent than last year. Approximately 29 percent of those that make the most money ($75,000 or greater) want to spend the same amount on their vacations this year as they did in 2006.

Women, the primary vacation organizers, plan to be big spenders this year. Females outpaced males when asked if they were going to spend 25 percent or more than last year on their air/hotel vacation. More men, 44 percent, than women, 37 percent, plan to spend the same as last year.

The group with the greatest percentage of spending plans is one of the youngest - 25- to 34-year-olds. More from this category, 20 percent will spend greater than 50 percent more than past years, compared to 13 percent of 50- to 64-year-olds. Half of more mature travelers, age 65 and above, plan to spend the same as last year.

Asian Americans will splurge this year on travel, with 21 percent of this group planning to spend 50 percent more than last year. About 17 percent of Hispanics plan to spend 25 to 49 percent more than all other ethnic groups.

High school graduates relish their vacation time and plan to indulge more this year than any other education level. College graduates may be thinking about paying back students loans, and plan to spend 50 percent less than they did last year on spring break trips.

No matter how much travelers plan to spend on their vacations, Funjet Vacations can build getaways to make certain they meet clients' budgets and exceed their expectations. In fact, Funjet Vacations offers more than 260 destinations, 15,000 hotels worldwide, and 19 air carriers to ensure customers experience custom dream vacations.
